Home learning at John Stainer

Home learning is given to all children in the school, with sound strings and reading books for the youngest children and open ended creative tasks like making a volcano, or a pirate ship for the older children. There are also weekly spellings which are tested, and of course we expect children to be reading EVERY night, even if it is for just ten minutes. In addition, we expect children to learn their number bonds and times tables. Occasionally we have parents who think they are helping if they do the tasks for their children – remember we are interested in what the children can do not what the parents can do! Please encourage children to complete tasks as quickly as possible and not leave things until the last minute, as it then becomes stressful for everyone.
