Year 2

In Year 2 Yellow we have Olga Drahan supported by Dana. Mark Crabtree does PPA cover on a Wednesday morning.

In Year 2 Red we have Anne-Maria O'Sullivan and Rebecca Farmer, supported by Helen Japes, Sue Reeves and Lisa Cole. Jenny Guilford does PPA cover on a Wednesday afternoon.

Year 2 is an exciting year for the children as they enter their second year in KS1 and prepare to join the older children in KS2 later on. This transition is made smooth through the steady progression from their learning in Year 1 to become independent learners.

Autumn Term

We start the Autumn term with our very exciting history topic about Pirates and Explorers.  For our home learning project we make our very own pirate ships and then invite all the teachers and parents to our exciting and scary pirate exhibition! We also have a fantastic trip to the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, where we learn all about sailors and life at sea. It is a brilliant experience for us as we get to dress up and go on an imaginary journey all around the world! Take a look at some of our pictures from our trip this year.

In the second half of the Autumn term we focus on the geography of Brockley and St Lucia. We learn about the ways in which St Lucia is similar and different to Brockley and important map skills. We also love this time of year because we get to show off our wonderful singing, speaking and acting skills in the KS1 Christmas concert.

 Spring Term

The Spring term is equally as fun because we learn all about London and the Great Fire of London! For our home learning project this term we make models of famous London landmarks for our exhibition. We also visit the Museum of London and take part in an interactive workshop all about the Great Fire of London. Not only that but we are visited by a real fire fighter who teaches us all about fire safety!

End of Key Stage tests

As Year 2 is the end of Key Stage 1, the children sit their SATs in the Sping Term. The children’s attainment in Reading comprehension, Writing and Mathematics are assessed and the results are shared with parents at the end of the academic year. We have a very calm and relaxed approach to our SATs tests as we believe that the children will only do well in this atmostphere.

 Summer Term

As the year comes to an end we begin to learn all about the history and geography of India. We also take advantage of the better weather by having an outdoor adventure and exploring minibeasts and habitats! Take a look at some photos from our last summer trip to Horton Kirby.
